Trail of TearsTrail of Tears Rememberance Ride and Trail of Tears Commemorative Motorcycle Ride The Trail of Tears Motorcycle ride honors those Native Americans who were voluntarily and forcibly removed from the Eastern United States to the Oklahoma reservations by the Indian Removal Act of 1830. Among the tribes that were moved were the Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Seminole. The Motorcycle ride is one of the largest organized motorcycle rides in history with numbers ranging from 40,000 to 90,000 riders. Started in 1993 by the Huntsville Heritage Foundation, Big Spring Jam was organized as a not-for-profit event. Proceeds from the Jam go to local charities, health and human services agencies, and arts and entertainment organizations throughout North Alabama. W.C. Handy Festival Music FestivalHeld in the Shoals area of Florence, the festival is named after the Father of the Blues, W.C. Handy, who was born there in a simple log cabin in 1873. The planners, The Music Preservation Society formed 1982, with the mission to preserve, present, and promote the musical heritage of Northwest Alabama. The festival has now stretched to 10 days with over 250 events. Jack Daniels Distillery BBQ InvitationalThe BBQ invitational brings teams from all over the world together to compete for this Grand Champion title. For American teams to compete at "The Jack," they must have in the past year won a state championship with 25 teams or a competition of 50 teams, or have won an event considered an automatic to the event like the American Royal, Memphis in May, or the Houston World Championship Bar-B-Que. More than 25,000 people descend on Lynchburg to attend this award-winning barbecue competition. Foreign teams come from far away as Australia, Canada, Norway and Turkey.
