Local Universities

UAH was founded in 1950 as a new campus in the University of Alabama System. Best known for its Engineering and Nursing Colleges and NCAA Division I ice hockey program, UAH has allowed North Alabama residents to receive a high quality education without having to go a great distance. 
Located in Normal, Alabama, Alabama A&M has one of the highest if not the highest profile in Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the nation. It was founded in 1875. The University's motto is 'Service is Sovereignty.' 
Founded in 1830 in Florence, Alabama, the University of North Alabama has developed into a comprehensive regional university exerting a major influence over the cultural, social and economic life of Northwest Alabama. UNA has always been known as a powerhouse football program in NCAA Division II as well as preparing students for entryway into the Nursing field. UNA's motto is 'Truth and Light of the World.' Founded in 1896, Oakwood University is a member of the Historically Black Universities. It is owned and operated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Oakwood's motto is 'Education. Excellence. Eternity.' The oldest university in Alabama, Athens State University continues the business today of what they did back in 1822, education.
